'Versions' are what we call different types/designs of the same product.

Rather than ordering each item separately, you can save £££ with StressFreePrint's unique 'versions' function.

Ordering versions is easy! Customise your colour and paper options, then enter the total number of products you need (in other words, add up the quantities for each version and provide us with the grand total). Then, tell us how many versions you require.

Later in the ordering process you will be asked how the total quantity should be split between the versions. If required, you will be able to specify a unique quantity for each version.

All versions of a product must be printed at the same time, at the same size and on the same type of paper.

StressFreePrint are fairly unique for an online print company. Whilst some of our competitors charge £40+ for a printed proof, we offer one FREE with every order. Why? Because we think it's important that you see how your document will look BEFORE we print it.

We'd prefer you to see a printed proof as it provides a much better impression of how your finished document will look when printed. However, if don't have time to wait for a printed proof to drop through your letterbox, we can supply an on-screen (PDF) proof via email instead.

Please note that our proofs are not colour accurate. We provide proofs so that you can double check the content and layout only.

Colours...

Unlike some printers, we don't charge based on the number of individual colours you want to use. Instead, we print everything in amazing full colour which means you can really go to town - include as many colours as you like and add colour photographs or illustrations if you wish. No extra charge!

If you only want black-and-white printing this is slightly cheaper. Select 'black' from the drop down menu.

Paper Type...

As well as our high quality 'standard' papers, you can now specify recycled papers for many of our products.

The recycled paper we use is of amazing quality. It's so good you won't believe it's recycled! But we guarantee it contains at least 50% recycled fibers (if you select an uncoated paper finish) or 75% recycled fibers (if you select a gloss art or silk art paper finish)

Paper Finish...

Depending upon which product and paper type you've selected, you may be able to choose from a range of different paper finishes:

Glossy finish (gloss art paper) - most leaflets, magazines and brochures are printed onto gloss art paper. Its smooth, glossy finish makes it ideal for reproducing full colour photographs and illustrations.

Semi-gloss finish (silk art paper) - silk art paper is similar to gloss art but has a slightly less glossy finish.

Matt finish (uncoated paper) - uncoated paper is normally reserved for items which are designed to be written on such as forms and questionnaires. It is also used for stationery items such as letterheads and compliments slips.

Greetings card / Postcard board - this sturdy 380 micron card has a semi-glossy finish to the front and a matt finish to the rear. It has been specially designed for greetings card and postcard applications.

Paper Weight...

Depending upon which product and paper type you've selected, you may be able to choose from a range of different paper weights:

'GSM' is an abbreviation for 'grams per square metre' which indicates the weight - and therefore the thickness - of a sheet of paper. For example, a typical photocopier paper is 80gsm, a good letterhead paper might be 120gsm, a postcard is usually about 300gsm.

All products, apart from brochures, booklets and some leaflets, are standard rated (you have to pay VAT at 20%).

A leaflet is usually VAT zero rated (you do not have to pay VAT) unless:

  • It contains an area designed to be written on
  • It can be used to gain admission to an event or premises (e.g. 'free entry with this flyer')
  • It can be used to obtain a discount on goods or services (e.g. '10% off with this flyer')

Unlike conventional 'litho' printing, it only takes us a couple of minutes to get our presses up and running. We simply press 'print' and out pops the first sheet of paper, printed in stunning full colour (well it's a bit more complicated than that but hopefully you get the idea).

This means we can keep our set-up charges really low (compared to a printer using a litho press who may charge a couple of hundred pounds just to cover the time it takes him to set-up his machine).

However, unlike litho printing, the running costs of a digital press are relatively high. So our digital technology is ideal for short print runs of a few thousand copies, whilst larger runs are better suited to conventional litho printing - you will find local specialists listed under 'printers and lithographers' in the Yellow Pages or at www.yell.com.

We accept business card printing artwork in most popular Mac and PC file formats but please refer to our Artwork Supply Guidelines before uploading your files to our site as your printed business card will only be as good as the artwork you provide. Also, please double check your artwork for spelling errors, typos and other problems prior to supplying it to us as subsequent changes may attract additional charges.

If you'd prefer to create your own business card artwork there are a few things you should consider:

Templates: Free artwork templates can be found within the 'templates' tab at the top of this page.

Colours: Numerous studies have shown that full colour business cards attract a far higher response rate than a black-and-white equivalent. That's why we print all our posters in full colour. That said, if you want black-and-white simply select this during the ordering process. By the way, we specialise in full colour printing and therefore do not offer business card printing in 'spot' colours. In other words, we can either print your business cards in full colour OR black-and-white. So if you don't want black-and-white then you may as well go to town... use as many colours as you wish and include full colour photographs or illustrations. There's no extra cost!

Resolution: Please be aware that a photograph or other 'bitmap' image requires a resolution of just 72dpi (dots per inch) for it to appear clear and sharp on a computer monitor. However, the same image requires a resolution of 300dpi for it to appear sharp when printed professionally. Therefore always check the resolution of your artwork. Just because your design looks great on screen doesn't mean it will reproduce correctly when printed. For further information about business card printing and artwork resolution visit Tom's Blog.

Layout: Always keep text and other important elements of your design at least 3mm away from the edge of the business card. Although we use highly sophisticated printing equipment, some movement is inherent within the printing process so if you place something too near to the edge of your poster it could be trimmed off.

Bleed: A professional graphic designer will always add 'bleed' to their business card artwork. Bleed is the method designers use to ensure that the business cards they get back from their printing company don't have ugly white borders around the edges. You see, despite all the recent advances in printing technology some movement - albeit only a fraction of a millimetre - still occurs during the business card printing process. To compensate for this movement, designers add bleed to their artwork. They extend by around 4mm beyond the edge of their artwork, any design elements they would like to touch the edge of the business card. So for instance, if you wanted to include a background colour which covered the entire area of your business card, you would extend this colour approx 4mm beyond each edge of your business card artwork. This means that any movement during printing will not result in ugly white borders around the edge of your business card. For further information about bleed visit Tom's Blog.
